Write a 250-word article for a school magazine on whether smartphones should be banned in classrooms.
"Smartphones in Class: Friend or Fö?" Have you ever sat through a 50-minute lesson without checking your phone? For most teenagers, the answer is a sheepish no. Yet, with handset addiction reaching record levels, schools across Austria are now debating an outright ban. (Hook: rhetorical question + statistic implication).
Topic Sentence: "Those in favour of a ban argue that smartphones simply hijack attention." Support: "A 2023 study by the University of Vienna found that students recovered from a notification ping in just over 23 seconds - precious time lost in a packed curriculum." Concluding sentence: "In other words, the cost of distraction is far greater than it appears."
Topic Sentence: "However, an all-out prohibition would throw the baby out with the bathwater." Support: "Smartphones can act as pocket libraries: dictionary look-ups, language apps, and instant fact-checking enrich lessons rather than disrupt them." Concluding sentence: "Banning the device altogether arguably ignores its educational potential."
"Rather than a blanket ban, schools should embrace a use-with-purpose approach: phones away during instruction, phones out for collaborative research. Only then can technology truly serve learning."
Idioms: throw the baby out with the bathwater, all-out, blanket ban. Hedging: arguably, can act as. Inversion implied. Lexis: handset addiction, hijack attention, use-with-purpose approach.
Ergebnis: Endtext ca. 245 Wörter, alle vier bullet points abgedeckt, drei C1-Marker, klare Argumentstruktur. Erwartete Bewertung: Inhalt 5/5, Aufbau 5/5, Sprachgebrauch 4-5/5, Sprachrichtigkeit 4-5/5.

Blog Post - Textsortenmerkmale
Write a 250-word blog post about your gap year experience in Australia.
"My Gap Year in Australia: What I Wish I Had Known" The morning my plane touched down in Brisbane, I had no idea that within three weeks I would be picking strawberries at five a.m. and falling asleep next to a kangaroo on a hostel sofa. (Hook: konkrete Bilder + überraschende Situation).
Topic Sentence: "Taking a gap year was, frankly, the scariest decision I had ever made." Support: "While my classmates were filling in uni applications, I was Googling 'fruit picking visa' and praying it wasn't a scam." Concluding sentence: "In the end, fear lost out to curiosity."
Topic Sentence: "Two things took me completely off guard." Support: "Firstly, Australians are far more direct than I had been led to believe - no small talk gymnastics, just 'How's it going, mate?'. Secondly, the country is geographically humbling: a six-hour drive can leave you in the exact same landscape."
Topic Sentence: "If I could pass on one piece of advice, it would be this: budget for boredom." Support: "Long bus rides and slow weekends are part of the experience - and that's when the best conversations happen."
"So, if you're on the fence about a gap year, jump. Just bring an open mind, a sturdy backpack, and maybe a bit of zinc cream. Have you ever taken a leap like this? Tell me in the comments below."
Halboffizielle Tonalität: "frankly", "took me off guard", "mate", direkte Anrede, Aufruf. C1-Marker: idiomatic phrasing ("on the fence", "lost out to curiosity"), Hedging ("had been led to believe").

Blog Comment - Textsortenmerkmale
Write a 250-word blog comment in response to the post above.
"Hi Jamie, your post struck a real chord with me - especially the bit about checking your phone before even opening your eyes in the morning. I caught myself doing exactly that this week."
"Although I cannot claim to have gone fully off-grid, I did try a one-week Instagram detox last spring. The first three days were brutal: I felt as though I had been cut off from my friends. By day five, however, I noticed something unexpected - I was reading actual books again."
"Where I would gently push back, though, is on your point that all social media is harmful. Communities for niche hobbies, like the woodworking subreddit I follow, have genuinely enriched my life. The trick, I suspect, is intentional use rather than total avoidance."
"In any case, thanks for putting this experiment into words - it has nudged me to schedule another break. Has anyone here tried a longer detox? I'd love to hear how you handled the social pressure."
Freundlich: "struck a chord", "I would gently push back", "thanks for putting this into words". Hedging: "I suspect", "would gently". C1-lexis: detox, intentional use, brutal (idiomatic), nudge.

Formelle E-Mail - Textsortenmerkmale
Write a formal 250-word email to a UK school regarding an exchange programme.
Subject: Application for the 2026 Student Exchange Programme Dear Mrs Carter,
"I am writing to express my interest in the student exchange programme between our schools advertised on your website on 15 May. As a final-year student at Bundesgymnasium Rahlgasse in Vienna, I would very much welcome the opportunity to spend the autumn term at Hampton School."
"I have been learning English since the age of nine and recently obtained a Cambridge B2 First certificate. My particular academic interests lie in literature and environmental science, both of which I understand are strong areas at Hampton."
"Aside from the obvious linguistic benefits, I am especially keen to experience the British system of co-curricular activities, in particular the debating society, in which I have been involved at home for the past two years."
"I would also be grateful if you could clarify three practical matters: the exact term dates, whether host-family placements are arranged centrally, and the estimated cost of the programme. If a video interview is required as part of the selection process, I am happy to make myself available at your convenience."
"Thank you very much for considering my application. I look forward to your reply. Yours sincerely, Lena Maier"
Höflich-Modal: would very much welcome, would be grateful if, would also be grateful. Hedging: I understand, in particular. Präzise Lexis: linguistic benefits, co-curricular, host-family placements.

Argumentation-Tree für Opinion Essays
Write a 400-word opinion essay arguing for or against free public transport in city centres.
"When the Estonian capital Tallinn made buses, trams and trolleys free for residents in 2013, sceptics predicted a fare-evasion disaster; over a decade later, the policy is still in place and several European cities are watching closely. This essay argues that free public transport in city centres is, on balance, a worthwhile investment, because it boosts urban equity and helps cut traffic congestion - although it does require careful financing."
TS: "First and foremost, free transit is a powerful tool for urban equity." Support: "For low-income households, the daily cost of a bus ticket can amount to a tenth of disposable income, effectively pricing some workers out of the city centre. Tallinn's experience suggests that scrapping fares has helped poorer residents access better-paid jobs further from home." Warrant: "In other words, the policy is not merely a perk but a redistributive measure."
TS: "Second, free public transport can ease the chronic problem of urban congestion." Support: "Studies in Luxembourg and Tallinn alike report modest but measurable drops in private-car usage of between 5 and 8 per cent within two years of implementation. Fewer cars mean cleaner air and quieter streets - benefits that ripple far beyond commuters." Warrant: "Even a single-digit reduction in car traffic compounds when multiplied across millions of journeys."
"Admittedly, critics argue that someone has to foot the bill, and that someone is usually the taxpayer. The fare revenue Vienna would forgo, for instance, runs to several hundred million euros annually. However, this objection overlooks two facts: first, fare collection itself is costly to administer; second, the health and productivity gains from cleaner air arguably offset much of the public outlay."
"To sum up, the case for free urban transit rests on equity and environmental dividends that outweigh - though by no means dissolve - the legitimate concern over funding. As more cities run the experiment, the central question may shift from whether free transit is a good idea to how exactly it should be paid for."
Emphatic do ("it does require"), Hedging-Adverbial ("First and foremost"), Hedging ("on balance", "arguably", "modest but measurable"), Idioms (foot the bill, pricing out, ripple far beyond), Präzise Kollokationen (urban equity, chronic congestion, redistributive measure).
Ergebnis: Endtext ca. 400 Wörter, klare Thesis-Struktur, 2 Argumente + Counter + Conclusion, hochwertige Lexis. Erwartete Bewertung: 5/5/5/5.
